I'm in this for the hell of it and the fun. and I'm just about to start my training as a mental health nurse!
To get a short script produced was great, to get it to Raindance was brilliant. Unfortunately made me broke too, but I shall keep on writing cus i want to. Atleast as a writer I can just put the script away until the right time to send to prod co's and I don't particularly have that itch in me kex to get it done and dusted.
I don't intend to become a fulltime writer, if it happens then it happens...until that day...don't give up the day job.
Over to you already eddie.

There are some ideas, emotions and ways of thinking that can only be comunicated through the medium of film, it's empowering and emoting. The reason I try to make films, good films that bring insight into a world we already live in or don't is because I belive it would be good for them if people could see what i can't say write or draw.
But then I think you gotta be a little big headed to get ahead.

Films immortalise people and in the long run we are all trying to achieve something that will leave its mark on this world once we are all long gone. Most people do this when having children ( even if they dont realise it at the time) I think making a film is like creating a life. Im sure in 200 years time the human race will still be watching spielberg and hitchcock and it will seem like they are still alive !

Was thinking about this whole game the other day, wont go into the obvious issues such as its a bitch of an industry , not what you know who you know etc etc.
But more on the actual film making process itself. were all making low budget films on this board some are realy low shool budget or say a couple of hundreds, other go into thousands. I guess what we are all doing is trying to break into the industry for some hollywood mogul to go heres twenty million go make your feature or MTV calling up saying how about directing hte next set of music vids etc etc. saying that i know some people are making films just for the hell of it, some its and art and some are just talking shite and hopefully disapear.
now, im going to talk about people trying to break in to the industry and low budget shorts. ive said this before and ill say it again. to be a succesful small business you have to think big business and i reckon this applys to film as well. right from the outstart i reckon you have got to think big and plan and run everything as if you were working on x amount funded production, if you wamt to break the industry why not start learning the skills now.
saying that one great thing about low budget is the creativity aspects, you have to be more creative to work with a low budget and i think it was eddie who said this on another post "Show one problem solved with money and ill bet ya there are hundreds of ways around it without" which is exactly true. for a very short short im planning im filming a "Titanic Wreck " sequence which is going to cost exactly ?18.00 and some brown paper. and ill put money on it that played with the titanic sequences in titanic you wont be able to tell the difference.
anyway, going back to the point, if your going to do this to break the industry you need to be switched on clued up from the start plus be extremly creative. plus extremly commited and thats even before you even start about making a film.
now reading the posts on this board i guess a lot of people have got on this merry ride for a bandituted of different reasons
so what are they ? and what our other peopels plans to make it ?

I always wanted to try it, it seemed exciting and fun, and I had big ideas about the 'importance' of film, how powerful it is at making a point, and all that noble ,malarky. Also the joy of turning ideas into reality - literally making a dream come true - turning your head inside out for all to see.
Now Im in the middle of the whole process (editing part 2 of my trilogy) I dont think like that. At the moment Im doing it because I said I would. Because I dont want to let any of the people involved down. I want it to be finished and fun, and have a hell of a premier next year. I want the satisfaction of saying to myself when Im a grandad that I went out and did what I always wanted to do.
All the earlier stuff is still true, but Im far more practical about it all now.
A lot of people on this forum are interested in the 'biz' in Hollywood and big houses. I never have been and never will. Thats the corporation. Ive been through the corporate grinder and I know it would eat me alive. Ill just be happy knocking out super8 animations in my garden shed when Im 80.
Fascinating....
